Google Celebrates Bunsen Burner Inventor with Doodle PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 30 March 2011 22:31

Google's doodle was launched last night as a tribute to Robert Bunsen of Bunsen burner fame. He is best know for being a chemist and investigated emission spectra of heated elements. Wikipedia describes Bunsen with the following: Robert Wilhelm Eberhard Bunsen was a German chemist. He investigated emission spectra of heated elements, and discovered caesium (in 1860) and rubidium (in 1861) with Gustav Kirchhoff. Bunsen developed several gas-analytical methods, was a pioneer in photochemistry, and did early work in the field of organoarsenic chemistry. With his laboratory assistant, Peter Desaga, he developed the Bunsen burner, an improvement on the laboratory burners then in use. The Bunsen–Kirchhoff Award for spectroscopy is named after Bunsen and Kirchhoff.

What is so cool about the doodle is the animation and they are not using flash or javascript, but sprites. Very cool. very browser friendly and no chance for malware injections. Wikipedia defines sprites as: In computer graphics, a sprite (also known by other names; see Synonyms below) is a two-dimensional image or animation that is integrated into a larger scene. Initially used to describe graphical objects handled separately of the memory bitmap of a video display, the term has since been applied more loosely to refer to various manner of graphical overlays.

See the google sprite below.

I have launched a few sites over the past few months. More site links help search engine optimization, some of these are fairly new and need some links. So there is no better site than my own. These sites are building steady traffic, but need more so the snowball effect occurs. How to get Search Engine Indexed PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 June 2010 19:08

Search engines are very smart nowadays, the days of search engine submission are gone. Search engines will crawl websites and follow links to new sites from established sites. Every time I build a new website, I add a link from this website to the new site as search engines crawl my web design site every week and gladly follow links to those new sites. Which is why I am linking those new sites here, http://www.whartonforjudge.com, and http://www.goodpeepers.com. I launched another 2 weeks ago and it is already been crawled and showing up in Google. Another tactic I use is site maps through webmaster tools. It tells the search engine how the site is structured to crawl and index properly. All the websites that I design and host are properly indexed and have pretty good search results for the keywords my clients desire.

Here is another website that my cousin built, http://www.infinitesorrows.com his first attempt, needs image optimization as it is slow to load but that is another blog. I am listing it here so it can get indexed and crawled.

Personalized URL Shortener PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 26 April 2010 22:26

I always like to take a break from websites once in a while. how do I break? Try something new in websites. So I set my mind in setting up a personalized url shortening service. I found a php based program YOURLS and set up the server and tweaked the files to work. I found a personalized short domain name to use for the shortened urls. MYR2.us which amounts to 6 characters, pretty short. It should read MyR².us but superscript characters are not allowed in a domain so I compromised. The R² signifies my initials and a reference of geekdom by some, I think. So it is a pretty cool way to shorten web address for Twitter and Facebook. Here is a sample shortened url to the City of Casa Grande website http://myr2.us/2

Interested in your own url shortening service website? Contact me for details.
